Life in Perth as a Student
All you need to know about Western Australia's capital - the sunniest Australian capital city.
On the other side of Australia from everyone else, however not everything else! Somewhat isolated, however there are more than enough sights and festivities to keep one entertained. Home to everything from a thriving psychedelic-rock scene, to a marsupial you might have seen on Instagram known as a Quokka, pristine city beaches line the coastline, with the world-famous Rottnest Island an essential must-see while in Perth. Coming to Perth to study? Study Perth is a great place to start.
We've put together below some key things you need to know about the city in general and life in Perth as a student.
Arguably Perth's trendiest and hippest area, Mount Lawley is a cracking spot for nightlife, especially with it's tertiary student population. Quirky bars and eateries keeping up with all of the latest fads make this place what it is today. Perfect for students at Edith Cowan University, (ECU) ensure Mt Lawley is on your to-visit list.
Not too far south of Perth lies the friendly suburb of Bentley. Great for students on a budget and for those who want to be in close proximity to Perth's largest university, Curtin University.
Cottesloe Beach (Cottesloe)
Perth's much-loved beachside suburb, the beach itself is the beautiful main attraction here. Not far west of the city, Cottosloe attracts sun-seekers who come from far and wide to tan on the white sand, and bath in the lush blue water.
Optus Stadium (Burswood)
The locals of Perth love their sport and they very recently welcomed a brand new stadium to watch it all in. Officially opening in early 2018, join the locals of Perth as they gather for a game of AFL, or simply admire it from the outside. It really is worth a look!
While this one might be off the coast of Perth and not on the mainland, we still think of Rottnest (or 'Rotto' as the locals affectionately know it) as part of Perth. An island surrounded by idyllic snorkelling and diving waters, it's best seen by bike! Enjoy 25% off a return trip to Rottnest Island with SeaLink Rottnest!
